About Anchorage

Anchorage Trustee Services Limited was established in 2007, and is wholly owned by national law firm Duncan Cotterill. Anchorage is a statutory supervisor of retirement villages across New Zealand and is approved by the Registrar of Retirement Villages and licensed by the Financial Markets Authority.

Why Anchorage?

Statutory supervision is our core business: We differentiate ourselves from competitors because our core business and sole function is the statutory supervision of retirement villages. We aren't distracted by corporate trustee responsibilities outside of the retirement village sector. For village operators this means you partner with a statutory supervisor that has a sound and local ownership structure, strong governance and an exclusive focus on retirement villages.

Expertise and experience: Through the resources of our parent company Duncan Cotterill, we have considerable commercial and legal experience to call upon. Our in house legal approach delivers enhanced value in the way we service our retirement village.

Unit settlements: Anchorage has appointed Duncan Cotterill to undertake unit settlements and provide the stakeholder facility for intending residents and residents who pay deposits and other capital payments in respect of occupation right agreements. As a result, the settlement process is run through one of the largest solicitor trust accounts in New Zealand with the benefit of established disciplines and processes that ensure strict compliance with the solicitor trust account regulations.

A national presence: Anchorage undertakes to visit villages under its supervision a minimum of once per year, and often more depending on the individual needs and requirements of each village. This 'on-the-ground' oversight nurtures the relationship between residents and village management, ensuring management receive timely, independent advice from a set of 'fresh eyes' and allows for the early detection of any potential issues.

A resident-focused approach: Anchorage has a resident-focused philosophy that promotes the protection and well-being of residents. Our comprehensive supervisory offering includes a resident advocacy service for all residents. This includes being readily accessible for residents to contact Anchorage with any concerns. We believe this adds value to a village operation by ensuring the maintenance of healthy relationships with residents and thereby avoiding potential disputes.
